For our house, I prefer using some clear lights on the centre of the tree to make it a bit brighter, but generally, I am partial to the multi-coloured lights. I love the looks of them outdoors. I think they make for a more fun & entertaining display, though clear are nice, too!

For me Christmas is all about the mulitcolored lights... ever since I was a small child... I've just always been a colored light lover!

One other reason I LOVE the multi-coloured lights...I don't know if anyone here has really bad eyesight like myself, but have you ever looked at Christmas lights without your glasses on?

Pure magic! :)

hehehe! I don't have bad eyesight, but I do squint and look at them... they blur together, and it's so magical looking!! I'm glad to know I'm not crazy!!!! I been doing that since I was a small kid!!

Actually to tell the whole truth... if you stand back, and squint and look at your tree that way while your putting the lights on you can see any gaps you missed!!! At least that's what I do!

I've seen some real nice single-colored lights used in various places, but it's multi-colored for me.

Multi-colored for me. When we were out buying our new Christmas tree last year, we had a choice between a tree with 400 color lights and 500 clear lights. I wanted the one with more lights, but since there weren't any more, we ended up buying the 400-light tree.

We have always used multi- colored lights on the tree and inside most of the house.

I like white lights, but I never seem to use them. I have done white with color before, but I'm not sure I liked the way it looked.

All the animated deer and such are white, I think they should make brown lights for those

we are getting a new tree this year but since Kim likes clear and I prefer multi we are not getting a prelit. We will buy some sets of lights of both and then I'll remove the fuse on the clear sets so we will have to use the multi.

my grandma would buy sets of color lights and take every 4th or 5th bulb out and replace with a clear bulb. She preferred just a few clear lights on her trees

Just add a couple strings of multi-colored lights. Then your tree will be perfect.

I've never been too much for the clear lights, but I am thinking maybe this year I might use them on one of my trees. I got a few more months to decide. :)

cover your whole yard with the clear lights and then buy 250-300 cans of that artificial snow and spray the yard, turn on the lights and you'll have a display that people from as far away as Galveston will drive to see

The tree in my family room has colored lights on it. My snowman and snowflake tree has clear lights and my other tree has clear lights. Last year was the first year I put colored lights on a tree in many years. II think I will keep it like that for a while. I can go from room to room and enjoy the lights that I am in the mood for.

On HSN Christmas in July last night they had a prelit led Christmas tree with remote, you could choose colored lights, clear, both at same time, as well as adjust for steady or flashing. I would like a tree like this. Please everyone because you can change it with the push of a button.

Erv, that would be AWESOME!

I've always loved multi colored lights, but I am thinking I MIGHT (a big MIGHT) have a tree in clear this year. You know, shake things up a bit.

I too have always used multi and would never think about clear. But I did use some on a couple of my trees 2 years ago and really like them. But I also use blue and red on some of my trees so who knows.

And live...always live!! My big, main tree is always huge and live! Hope you get one this year JB!

I found out I can tolerate lots of clear by using a dimmer on them, lowering the intensity makes them much more attractive I think

yep, I have a couple dimmers for my tree, it has 4 levels of intensity. I like to keep it on either the dimmest or second to the dimmest. I have had all clear mini-lights for several years now. the dimmer really makes for a great ambience, like having candlelight. I grew up with multi and whenever some (lame, haha) adult suggested clear or white lights, I thought they were totally nuts. And I can't remember what prompted me to try all clear, but I had been an adult for quite some time but anyway, I've used clear ever since. and every year I think about doing multi again, but end up doing clear. Sometimes it will be a lot of clear and then I might add just a few strings of multi, but very little. and while I am rattling on and on, I have to say that I do not like LED lights, even if they might have pretty colors in the multi. they bother my eyes and to me they just look sterile, not sure how else to put it. they don't have the warmth, ambiance and glow like incandescent lights do. oh, I forgot to say that if I use clear on my tree, than the garland will be multi.

I agree with the LED part. They just dont glow like the old mini lights. They beam.

I do a mix of multi and clear in my display. I use multi color minis in most of my bushes, but I use clear minis on the tall, eye-level bushes near the front door. Using multi-minis only makes everything blend together too much visually and using multi color lights at eye level along the walkway is just too much.

I also have in my landscaping several very large bushes that I use LEDs in. The hollies have red, berry-sized LEDs and they look alright because you see them from 5 or more feet away. Another large evergreen has green LEDs. Using them selectively saves a lot of extension cord hassle...and power draw without sacrificing the traditional look.

All of my lights are steady-on, except for one or two bushes (wisteria) that have a mix of solid purple steady lights and clear twinkle lights.
